Overall Progress Part 2

I believe I am on track with my reading because I am almost done and have done my portfolio piece to the best of my ability. I’m just going to continue what I’m doing complete everything hopefully on time.

The CAMH organization and their site is still the most important text I’m reading right now because it is reliable information from a hospital designed to teach people about this topic and subtopics. I haven’t really found any other resources that were helpful or that I didn’t already read.

My Reader’s Notes and Book Review Part 2

My progress with reading my book(All The Bright Places), is going fairly well, I’m almost finished the book and I am trying my best to incorporate all the necessary and important information into my reader’s notes and then I am going to move on to my book review.

The only challenge I find with doing reader’s notes is that you have to pick through stuff to find all of the important facts, quotes etc. which can be very time consuming. Throughout reading this book I am just learning about the characters(Finch and Violet) stories and how they cope with their mental illnesses(depression, suicidal thoughts and PTSD).

I plan on finishing the book, my reader’s notes and book review very soon.

My Connection with CAMH Part 2

After a couple weeks of using the CAMH website and their many resources such as their educational course(https://moodle8.camhx.ca/moodle/mod/book/view.php?id=93&chapterid=129), I’ve acquire a lot of information that I’m using in my project.

I still have the disadvantage of not being able to talk to someone from CAMH directing and creating a personal connection, I’m having difficulty acquiring the same information that I could get from an interview but I’m managing right now. My SMART goal is mostly being accomplished because I am learning new information through all the tools and resources on CAMH and other websites on the internet.

My next steps regarding these two components is still to use all of the information I’m acquiring from the internet, books and obviously CAMH, to complete my passion project.

Overall Progress

I believe that I’m not on track with my reading to support my project because I haven’t read that much but I plan on reading 25 pages a day from now on and completing all of my notes and other requirements for reading the book.

The most important text that relates to my project is the CAMH website
(camh.ca) because they are a teaching hospital so it’s designed to teach and educate people about mental health, so I believe that this is my most important and reliable source.

I have found other articles through the CAMH that have helped me and I hope to find other resources aside from CAMH through my progression of this project. I plan on going online and finding articles and other organization that can provide information about mental illnesses.

Reader’s Notes and Book Review

For my portfolio piece I chose to do reader’s notes and a book review on the book, All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. So far it hasn’t been hard to read the book and make reader’s notes, I am enjoying the book so far.

I have been following the guidelines for reader’s notes from D2L, it isn’t hard but it is fairly time consuming to go through each section of the notes and pick through each page for devices and other information.

I’ve learned mostly about how mental illnesses can affect people and their lives. My next step regarding this component of this project is to complete all my reader’s notes in as much details as I can and to complete my book review with my full opinion and what I’ve learned from reading the book.

My Connection with CAMH

When first contacting my community connection(better help), I emailed the organization explaining this project and why I chose this topic etc. They then responding telling that they couldn’t help me because all of their representatives are all busy working with patients so I chose to change my organization to CAMH. CAMH is a teaching hospital that is focused around mental health. I contacting them by emailed and they replied saying that all of the information I could find was on their website and through their educational courses about mental health and it also goes into depth about certain mental illnesses.

The only challenge with my community connection is that I’m not directing speaking to a representative from CAMH, which gives me less of a personal approach and it is also a disadvantage for me because I won’t be able to do interviews. Although I’m not talking to someone personally, their website provides all of the information I need to complete the project and I’m getting what I need.

My SMART goal is to educate myself and others about mental health and to also just gain all the knowledge I can. The CAMH website has been helping me to reach this goal, I am using their education tool that provides a course on depression and other mental illnesses, and I am acquiring a lot of information.

My next step with pairing my topic/project with this organization, is to use all of the information from the course(s) and other tools on their website; and incorporate it into my project so that all of the information is reliable.
